How to set up categories and subcategories

Setting Up Budget Categories and Subcategories

Make your budget reflect your real life

Your budget should feel like yours That’s why Lucky Friday lets you create your own categories and subcategories instead of forcing you into a template that doesn’t fit

How to create rename or delete categories

To create a new category go to the Categories section and tap the plus icon You’ll choose a name color and icon that helps you recognize it at a glance

Want to stay more organized Use subcategories You might have a main category called Food and then add subcategories like Groceries Eating Out Coffee or Meal Kits

To rename just tap the category then edit the name icon or color To delete swipe or tap delete from the edit screen Don’t worry if a category has past transactions we’ll ask if you want to reassign them or just archive the category

Ideas for category structure

Here are a few ways people break things down

  • Essentials
    • Rent or Mortgage
    • Groceries
    • Utilities
    • Insurance

      Lifestyle

    • Restaurants
    • Streaming
    • Hobbies
    • Personal Care

      Kids

    • Clothing
    • School Supplies
    • Activities
    • Allowance

      Goals

    • Emergency Fund
    • Travel
    • Home Projects
    • Debt Payoff

You can go as broad or as specific as you want Some people like fewer buckets to keep things simple Others want detail so they can really dial in on what’s working

You can always change your setup later without losing any data Just make it make sense for how you think about money
