How transactions are categorized
How Transactions Are Categorized
Make it automatic but still totally in your control
Every time a transaction comes in Lucky Friday checks for rules you’ve created to decide where it should go If there’s no rule we fall back on smart defaults but you can take full control any time.
Rule-based autocategorization explained
You can create your own rules to tell Lucky Friday exactly how to handle things For example
- If the name contains “Target” → send it to Household
- If the name includes “Starbucks” → send it to Coffee
- If the amount is under $10 and from Apple → send it to Subscriptions
Rules run in the order you set them and you can have as many as you want per category or subcategory This gives you total flexibility to reflect how you think about spending.
Default behavior vs user rules
If you haven’t set up any rules Lucky Friday uses smart guesses based on the merchant name and your recent habits It’s a good starting point but it’s not perfect
Once you create your own rule that always takes priority That way you never have to re-sort the same transaction twice
You can edit or delete rules anytime and see which ones matched in your transaction history so you always know what’s happening under the hood.
